Music

Our aim is that all children fully experience the enjoyment and fun of musical learning in as many different ways as possible. At the same time we concentrate on building confidence within each child and encouraging them to develop to their full potential.

Key Stage 2:

The whole of Key Stage 2 enjoys a weekly singing assembly together on Tuesdays.  Year 3 and 4 sing together followed by Year 5 and 6.  We have a trained piano player who comes in for these sessions.  Children sing a variety of songs ranging from those relevant to their theme topics as well as national holidays and festivals such as Christmas and Easter songs.

Music is taught through topics in the themed curriculum. Children have the opportunity to enjoy musical experiences through listening, singing, movement and dance and by playing tuned and un-tuned percussion. Children have opportunities to develop their use of instruments for composing and performing music.

Additionally to this there are also several instrument lessons taking place throughout school.  On a Wednesday we have a brass band for Years 4 and 5.  We have guitar lessons on a Friday for Years 4, 5 and 6.   There is also a singing club which will take place after school in the Spring term.

All children in Key Stage 2 get the opportunity to play steel pans throughout the year and we have a band that get to perform at assemblies for parents and visit other schools.  The steel pan band will soon be showing off their amazing talents and performing at Beauchamp College in the last week of term!

The new National Curriculum for Music is taught as a subject on its own and when appropriate, through the learning challenge curriculum.  The children have opportunities to develop their creative use of instruments for composing, performing, and appraising music.
